A person who is resting but not asleep is most likely in the alpha state. Meditation and day dreaming occur in this state. Whilst taking a walk in the countryside or relaxing after a physical task we are usually in this state . Alpha is associated with meditation, when we are in Alpha our brainwaves are slower and higher in amplitude than Beta waves and are in the frequency range of 8 to 13 cps (cycles per second). Theta Theta is the magical state between being awake and asleep and is traditionally associated with meditation. We usually experience it whilst daydreaming or just before falling asleep. It is generally a very positive mental state but requires a great degree of skill to achieve.Theta frequency is regarded to be in the range of 4 to 7 cps (cycles per second). Meditation enables us to experience this frequency and sustained periods in this state can be a highly productive and creative mental activity. Delta Delta is the frequency where the deepest level of sleep takes place and is in the frequency range of 0.5 to 4 cps (cycles per second). and occurs while we sleep, we never reach 0 cps, or we would be be a vegetable and brain dead. Dreaming generally occurs in the higher states of delta. Rejuvenation and healing of the physical body happens in this state. If you wake up and still feel tired, your brain may have not been able to reach Delta. Delta waves have the largest amplitude and are the slowest brainwave frequency
